Monday morning we got up early to spend the day with the elephants up in the mountains. We booked our trip through our hostel ' dozy house ' the lady on reception Gina was fantastic and was so helpful... The day started with a 1 hour 30 mins drive up the mountain .. When we arrived we were taken to the elephants and we're able to feed them. There was around 12 elephants In the area which they all owned . When the elephants are 2 they are taken to school with their owners and are taught how to bond with each other and for the elephants to be able to listen to its owners commands ... The morning consisted of getting up close and personal with the elephants , learning how to get on to an elephant without assistance and riding the elephant around.. It was so much fun. We then made our own lunch like true Thai people. We made a Papaya salad for starter then we had a rice and veg dish. The food was really good and fuelled us ready for the rest of the afternoon. In the afternoon we trekked through the jungle on our elephants then finally made our way through the river , dismounted then washed our elephants in the river. What an experience that was... Unforgettable... Our day unfortunately came to an end and we made our way back to out hostel for the night..'it was safe to say after a very long day we slept really well ... After spending 3 fantastic nights in Chaing Maj we were now going to be heading south to Cambodia... This consisted of a 24 hour bus journey with a change over in Bangkok. I was dreading the journey , half an hour in we stopped and it seemed as though we had broken down but thankfully we didn't but it was a dodgy start to the trip . Our first bus was a 13 hour night bus . The bus wasn't too bad and we could put our seats back so it wasn't too uncomfortable and we did get some sleep. Arriving in Bangkok at 6 am we then had to get another mini bus to Siem Reap .. That took just under 8 hours to just get to the border then we had to go through the border and get our visa for entry to Cambodia . We sat around for so long and the heat was pretty intense with our rucksacks on weighing us down... We made the decision to pay extra and jump in a cab to our hotel rather then get another bus which would take 5 hours but the cab only taking 2.. I cat explain how bad the roads are out here.. They are so bumpy with massive pot holes. The journey took 90 mins and by the. It was dark and all we wanted was a shower and some food after a 24 hour journey ... The next day we spent the day at Angkor Wat which was fantastic , we thoroughly enjoyed walking around these famous ruins and took lots of photos. The weather was beautiful so we topped up our tans nicely as well. The next day was on to Phnom Penh the capital . We only spent one night here as there isn't much to do we just came to visit the killing fields of Phnom Penh which was an experience . You walk around the grounds listening to the history and awful stories of the killings. It was definitely worth the visit. Our next stop is the beautiful beaches of Sihnoukville on the coast of Cambodia . Here we will finally get a chance to chill on the stunning beaches after a busy week of non stop action and travelling ..
