Getting Wet in the Whitsundays!!
The time has finally arrived to stop living it up with the rellies and make our own way up the coast - first stop Airlie Beach, the gateway to the Whitsunday Islands. When we booked our flight, we planned on getting wet in the coral reefs, but as the days went on, we spent more time getting soaked in the tropical rain than actually making out to the reef!
The first island we visited was Whitsunday Island, and took a 900 horse power speed boat to Whitehaven Beach. The beach was gorgegous, dubbed one of the best in the world with a 98% pure silica sand (check out the photos if you dont believe us!!). Although the weather held out for us on the beach, as we boarded the boat, there was an almighty storm, and the next hour was spent with both us cowering under a towel trying to avoid the pelting rain and hail (which didnt help being on the fastest boat in these waters)!!
The next day, we booked a trip to Blue Pearl Bay, and the moment we woke up it was once again pouring with rain. After being reassured our trip was still on, we made our way down to to marina, and when we arrived we looked like we had swum there! We were still told the trip was going ahead, and after about 20 minutes of getting drenched the Captain decided it was not a good idea to go (YOU SAY!?).
The next day we ventured out to the great Australian Rainforest, and was given a guided tour of the very wet and slippery terrain! Despite the never ending rain fall, the rainforest tour was great, and visited the Ceder Creek falls which were absolutely beautiful (James wanted to swim in them, but was less tempted when he heard about the crocs!)
Next stop Sydney!
