Days 1 -9 .... Life on the Sunshine Coast!
So, after what seemed like a never ending flight across the world, we have finally arrived in Australia!! Our first port of call is the Sunshine Coast, and we started off the week true aussie style by hitting the beach for a surf lesson! The beach is just about 50m from where we were staying so met our surf instructor and was taught all the basics on the beach before hitting the waves. Surfing was amazing, so much better than we both expected, and by the end of the lesson we could both stand up and (kinda) stay on! (Well Chloe could, not so sure about James!)
On Tuesday we visited Australia Zoo which was actually set up and managed by the late Steve Irwin. As soon as you set foot in the zoo you could tell this zoo was his as there were soo many animals just running around free! Chloe's favourite was 'Roo Heaven' as it is a big plain of grass with about 50 kangaroos bouncing around that you can pet and feed. Their such stubborn anaimals as they wont move for nothing or nobody but were soooo cute! There was alos loads of Koala's just lurking in random trees, and we saw one of the infamous crocodile demonstrations in Steves Crocoseum which was really mad.
Our next trip was to 'Underwater World', a massive aquarium in Maroochydore just a few km from where we were staying. Anyone who knows us will know James' passion for fish, so naturally he was in his element and its surprising hes not still in there now! The aquarium was really crazy, and James' best bit was the Honda filled with marine fish (check out the photos if your confused!) We also saw a crazy seal show called "Seals behaving badly" which is the best seal show in the whole of Australia, and one guy in the audience was actually set up by the presenters and ended up falling in the seals pool! The seals circled him acting like sharks (he was really bricking it) and stole his board shorts and it wasnt until the end when they dragged him out that he finally twigged he was set up!
On Friday, Greg took us on a 4 x 4 beach safari to Tin-Can bay which was fun for James but Chloe found it really scary stuck in the back of the out-of-control Hi-lux! The beach stretched out for miles, and we had to turn around after about 60 km as we were nearly cut off by the sea and the wheels kept spinning in the dry sand! It was a driving experience like no other and although Greg looked like he had control, there were a few moments when we all thought we never going to make it back to the road in time!
Early Saturday Eileen drove us up to Eumundi market which was really cool but as soon as we stepped out of the car it was like we had gone back 40 years as the town was really old fashioned! The town still had a working saloon, full running market and horse and carriages, and there were loads of street performers who we suspected were a little crazy!
We'd like to say Thanks to Phil and Eileen for putting us up for our first week in OZ- just a shame about the cricket eh Phil?!
Next stop Brisbane!!
