Day 5 began with traveling to AECOM. This was such a good visit and really recharged my batteries and excited me so much again. Even one of the students (a computer science major) said that he wanted to become a Civil engineer after that. We met with Dr. Li and she was incredible. She was a brilliant chinese structural engineer and she really was something else. Even after having a Ph. D she returned to cambridge university to get a masters in sustainble design, because she knew very little about it, and she was not alright with that. This meeting was so beneficial to me as a civil engineer. It really explained what civil engineering was all about, and also reminded me that I do the thinking and the innovation, that the computer is just a tool. She really drilled this point down and I was so happy she did, because I needed it. After this amazing visit, we had a great lunch. After that we met with local students and Viet and I did our interview and went to a global bike company, Giant bikes. Here we had a useful interview with one of the employees and he told us everything we needed to know about bike locks. We were able to finis this interview and it turned out to be very important for us to do it, because it gave us a much better undertanding of the market in China. Then we went to get a campus tour and then dinner wit some university students as well. Today was a great day, and AECOM really made me grow as a civil engineer, because it got the overall picture repainted in my head of what it means to be a civil engineer, a picture I was forgetting.
