Packed up again, we headed for the coast. The drive from Santa Cruz to Valparaiso was less than two hours but we packed in quite a bit along our route.
One of our favorite Chilean wines is Chocolan and unbeknownst to us, it was on our way! It made for a nice quick visit and potty break.
Pablo Neruda is a famous and quite eccentric poet who had several houses throughout Chile. One of the more unique estates is located at Isla Negra and is now a museum. We spent a couple of hours admiring his collections from all over the world as well as the dramatic coastline.
Within miles of our destination, we had one more check box to tick off -the largest swimming pool in the world! Working our magic at the gate, we were granted admission into this private resort.
It was nearing sunset as we made our way through the crazy streets to Hotel Ultramar.
After settling in and enjoying the sunset views from the hilltop hotel, we deciding to attempt walking to a suggested restaurant. It was quite the adventure. After being lost and finding the restaurant closed, a taxi brought is to La Conception. With one of the best city views we have ever had from a restaurant, we had a delicious meal of clams, fish and lamb.
