Relaxation & degustation! This is my type of holiday…..Tuscany lives up to its reputation! If heaven was on earth it would be located here!
We decided to find a hotel central to where we wanted to visit, Florence, Pisa, Tuscan countryside and thermal baths. The first hotel we chose was under renovation which we thought was just our luck but little did we know that we would end up at a little hidden gem in the countryside 14km out of Pisa. Locanda St Agata is an old farm house renovated superbly into lodging and restaurant, it is family run and Luca and his family were so hospitable and friendly it really set the scene for such a great stay.
We travelled into Florence on our first day the city was buzzing with activity and the sights and streets had a different feel to others we visited. Statue of David OMG it's huge had no idea Michael Angelo really had an eye for detail, David's hands were so perfect. Michael Angelo did so well to portray strength and victory of battle so serenely with only a glimpse of David's sling which was so insignificant in the sculpture. Other sculptures around the city portrayed victory of battle but they showed decapitated heads and portrayed visions of violence.
After dinner we visited the famous Leaning Tower of Pisa it was larger than I had imagined. The tower would have been a icon of architecture even if it wasn't leaning! We took photos and the mandatory superimposed shots that is a must.
The next day Relaxation! We booked ourselves in for a massage and thermal spa at Therme San Giulliano. We were there for 3 hours and floated out without stress or tension, our bodies were thanking us endlessly! We then had lunch and toured the local Tuscan region on the way to San Gimingiano this was an amazing medieval village which was surrounded by fortified walls which is a common thing around these parts, Pisa was also surrounded by walls as may other villages in the region. The views of the Tuscan countryside from on top of the walls were magnificent words and photos just cannot describe its beauty and the feeling we had when we were there. We were so lucky to witness a rainbow and sunset while we were there.
Degustation you don't think I would miss out on talking about food did you! Well it was to die for! The produce was so fresh and the style of cooking worked well to enhance the flavours. It was great to finally taste the food we travelled for, the tastes will remain with me for ever.
We could have spent another week here and will definitely return some day to do this for sure!
