Hola otra vez!
We are writing to you after coming back from a 10 day trip with our friend Diane from Canada. It was great to have another visitor from home to share in our adventures.
After some difficulty in getting her from Lima to Mancora, the rest of the trip turned out to be great. We spent some time with her in Mancora meeting our friends, experiencing the food and enjoying the view.
Diane and her husband d*** were one of our sponsors for the Miracles in Mancora campaign we had here. It was great for her to be here while we made the donation of sports uniforms to Pallete school. The uniforms were purchased with their donation. The students were extremely grateful and we celebrated with them on the one of the days of their week long anniversary celebration.
We also had another Bunko party. This time we had many people and much more fun than the last one. Jackie turned out to be the big winner with most points and most bunkos. It was fun to see them so excited when they got a bunko or a fiver.
The last day of May we left for a few days to go to Vilacabamba, Ecuador. We had gone there once in November and it was great to return to the green and calm and beauty of Ecuador.
We went on a horseback ride through the valley of Longevity for 4 hours. Were our butts soar. Diane's horse didn't like Stacy's horse getting so close and all at once she kicked up both legs and said back off. Stacy's leg just happend to be in the way and boy did she get a whallop on the shines. Our guide took us to the river where she was able to relieve the pain in the freezing cold mountain water.
We left Madre Tierra in Vilcabamba early one morning and travelled the entire day by bus to get to Trujillo, Peru. When we crossed the border back into Peru the border guard only gave us 30 days instead of our usual 90 days. So as we write this to you we are actually illegal aliens in Peru....shhhh don't tell anyone.
In Trujillo we stayed in a great hotel called Los Conquistadores, right near the centre of the city. We really loved Trujullo. Although it was a little colder than Mancora, the city was really pretty and clean and friendly.
Around Trujillo, we visited several ruins and a place called Huanchaco Beach where the waves were bigger than we've ever seen them! At Huanchaco it was cool watching the fishermen with their little reed boats (as pictured). The boats do have a name, which we've forgotten. It seemed really fun...like they were kayaking, only it was their actual job.
We went some Moche ruins called Huaca de la luna (which means Temple of the Moon) and it was really amazing with all the brilliant colors you could still see. We also went to Chan Chan, which is an ancient city of the Chimu culture of Peru. We saw some smaller temples as well, called Huaca del Dragon and also Huaca de Esmerelda. All of them were very interesting and ornate...wonder where the creativity got lost along the way.
Now we are back in Mancora for the last leg of our adventure and starting to look towards returning to Edmonton to see all our friends. We'll keep you posted!
Love from Peru,
Stacy and Shelly
