Hello from San Rafael!
Who knew we'd be in San Rafael, Argentina...had never even heard of it! We sort of stumbled upon this place after a bad bout with the second leg of our timeshare. We were supposed to have spent the holidays at Las Geminis Resort in Las Lenas, Argentina, but it turned out to be a virtual ghost town! It was the only hotel of 22 in the area that was open, and there was no outside line to phone out, no internet for 70 km. The hotel's restaurant was not open and there was only one restaurant open for a few hours a day in the whole "town" (which, by the way, was not really a town at all but was a desert in the middle of nowhere). AND there was no public transportation available to get out of town for the next 5 days, so a security guard at the place next door had to phone us a private taxi, which had to come from the town 70 km away, so it cost us an arm and a leg to get the heck out of Dodge and back to someplace civilized (two and a half hours away)! Crazy times.
The good news is we found a great hotel to spend Christmas at and we really enjoyed our time connecting with some family and friends via phone and internet and sending our little Christmas message to you all (which is posted under the video tab on this site, by the way).
Our time here was spent mainly hanging out and just being together over the holidays, watching movies and walking around town and going out to eat. We did go on a day trip through the Atuel Canyon, which was really interesting scenery and did an (extremely short) jaunt down a piece of the river in a little whitewater raft in the pouring rain. Good times. :)
Hope all is well back home.
Love,
Stacy and Shelly
