Hello from the gorgeousess of Bariloche, Patagonia!
Bariloche made us feel a bit like we were back in the Canadian Rockies. Bariloche is full of snow-capped mountain peaks and crystal clear glacial lakes, not to mention, thousands of tourists. There's a mountain of things to do here...skiing (in winter), kayaking, hiking, horseback riding, white-water rafting, canoeing, you name it. The pictures show this place off better than can be described in words, so make sure to check out the photos too.
We arranged a half-day boat tour on Lake Nahuel Huapi, which is the biggest lake in Bariloche (and is it ever big!) Lake Nahuel Huapi supplies the drinking water for all of Bariloche. We went to a place called the Arrayan Forest where we walked around and took in the sites. We also went to a place called Victoria Island where we did some hiking and just waded in the really cold water of Lake Nahuel Huapi.
We also took a full day bus tour to the Torneador Glacier, which was really cool, and quite a bit like the Colombia Ice Fields back home in Alberta. We had lunch at a beautiful horse ranch and met a really cool lady, Robin, from the states who has been working over in Saudi Arabia for the past 12 years. Robin was travelling on her own and was going to be staying at the ranch for a 6 day horseback riding trip. She didn't speak a lick of Spanish, so, now being seasoned South American travellers (ahem!), it was kind of cool to be able to help her settle in to the ranch and reassure her that she'd have a great time.
One of the highlights of this trip was our half day kayak trip on one of the many lakes in the area. It was gorgeous and just fun to be enjoying the outdoors together. Check out photos, they say more.
The prevailing thought for the trip was how much beauty is in the world...in people and in places...and it's great that these pockets of gorgeousness are spread all over the world so that so many people are able to experience beauty. We feel so thankful that we were able to experience this pocket of beauty in Argentina.
And again, we're thankful for you (and that you are actually reading this!) ;)
Lots of love,
Stacy and Shelly
