Hi Guys!! Last time i updated i was just about to get the train from Hanoi to Hue, i shared a cabin with Lyndsey, Erin and Megan we spent most of the evening killing cockroaches lol. Not the best train i've seen but i slept well all the same! Got to Hue about 9.00ish but our rooms were not ready so we went to get some lunch. Just before we set off Erin realised she had left her passport and purse on the train!!! Fon phoned the train company and by the greatest amount of luck they had been handed in at the next station in Da Nang! So we bought her lunch to celebrate! Checked into our hotel in the early afternoon, then set off out again for our organised excersion. We had a local guide Vuong or Von who took us to The Citadel (like Vietnams version of the Forbidden City) it was bombed to hell during the Vietiamese War because the American thought the Viet Cong were hiding there (they were no where near Hue!), therefore destroying most of it, but now UNESCO are funding Vietnam to rebulid it! Then we saw the Thien Mu pagoda and Tu Puc imperial tomb. The guide was fantastic he was very open about how the war had affected the country and his family which made it incredibly interesting! That night was a quiet one dinner and a swim in our hotel pool. The next day was my favourite Vietnam experience!!!! Me, Megan, Lyndsey and Erin had a 2 and a half hour motorbike tour of Hue!!!! We didn't drive we were riding pillion but it was truly fricking awesome i felt like Jack Nicholson in Easy Rider!! We went to local village to see the morning market, rice museum (more interesting than it sounds), viewpoint to see the Perfume river and some of the old French/US army bunkers, a village where they showed us how conical hats and incense sticks are made and finally to the Tiger and Elephant fighting arena (only used by the emperor) It was fab!! Just had enought time for a shower at the hotel before we set off again another 4hour bus ride to Hoi An. We stopped at Da Nang for Erin's passport, another viewpoint with more bunkers overlooking the China sea and Marble Mountain which we stupidly climbed!! It is getting hotter and hotter the more move south! Think it hit 38 degrees that day! We arrived in Hoi An about 17.00ish we had a group meal and me and girls at another night time swim at the hotel, in this heat it is necessary and feels brill! We have 2 full free days in Hoi An. This morning most of the group had a 3 hour bike ride in the countryside which included getting the chance to ride a water buffalo lol! We took a boat back and then walked to the hotel for a break from the heat! This afternoon i am hooking up with Lyndsey for lunch and some shopping as Hoi An is renowned for it's tailormade stuff i don't think i will get anything but it doesn't hurt to look! xxxx
