Left Ciudad Bolivar early for a flight to Canaima - the starting point for Angel Falls. I got added to a large Japanes group who were getting the "fly over" tour! Very cool cuz thats a whole seperate (very expensive) tour. The plane flew in front of the falls for 3 laps. Pretty amazing. Once in Canaima, I was added to a group of 3 french, 1 Venezualen, and 2 Brazilians. Great group! We hopped on a "boat" canoe whatever, and took a 3 hour ride up river to the start of our hike. Much more difficult than I expected! The path is slippery rocks and tree roots (see picture). also through a rushing river knee deep. It was quite the "walk". Oh yea and it was uphill! But I made it with only 3 bruises, 2 falls and one slice (right through my tattoo damn it). The viewing platform (a bunch of flat rocks) was amazing. We were the only ones around. Much different than the other major falls I've been to! It's an amazing place with jungle totally surrounding it. A couple of hours there and then it was time for the 2 hour hike back and another short boat trip to our camp for the night. 10 hammocks lined up with skeeter netting for cover. Had an amazing dinner prepared over open fire and actually slept quite well! It was just very very dark and very very quiet! Quite a life time experience with some great people.
