Last days in Iceland....Volcanoes and Horses
We headed south to Reykjavik after leaving Borgarnes. Most everything was closed cuz it was Good Friday but we managed to find a couple of shops and a cute cafe open. The next day we walked to the town center and over-indulged in Icelands famous and amazing hot dogs! Headed to the local weekend flea market where we found nothing but a cool experience. That night he headed out on a tour to the erupting volcano. We lucked out cuz our driver took us off roading where we got about 10 miles closer than any other bus. Crossed rivers, climbed embankments and got stuck a couple times but alas...we made it. Saw lava shooting 150 feet in the air. It was quite the sight! On the way back we got to experience the Northern Lights for the 3rd time. What a great night! Got back around 2AM only to wake up at 5 for our early morning horseback ride. Icelandic horses are unique and easier to ride than our horses. They have a special trot that makes your butt not hurt so much. But after 2 hours....mine still did! To the spas we head the next day to ease our aching butts! Next day, after the snow clears a bit, were off to Grindavik for our last night in Iceland. Ending where we began at the cute B&B. We went to the Saltfish Museum Grindavik is so famous for. Since it's our last night and were in a fishing town, we went all out on dinner. Lobster appetizer, fish, fish and more fish! Spent the evening planning for our next destination....Ireland! Off to the airport bright and early for our flight to London.
