7th May - Yichang
We arrived in Yichang after a very long day train! After a nights sleep in a nice motel we took the coach to Yangste River (Biggest river in China) to board a boat to see the three Gorges.
Unfortunately, the boat was not very nice...all the toilets in the rooms smelt so bad! We didn't shower whilst we were on the boat and had to hold our noses while we went to the toilet! :(
However.....we travelled up the river through the night and by morning we had reached the stunning parts of the river. We were surrounded by lush, green, misty gorges that were sumerged in clear bluey, green waters. The scenery was amazing! We transferred from the large boat we were on to a meduim sized boat that could fit through the narrower parts of the river. We then hopped onto a dock that sat in the middle of the green hills and boarded small wooden 'Pi' boats which carried around 15 people each. Chinesemen rowed the boats through the narrowest parts of the river, through the tall hill sides and greenery.
We saw a crazy woman singing on top of one of the hills. The tour guide said she lived up there in amoungst the trees.
Once we were back on the big boat, we sailed through the different parts of the Gorges, coming out of our rooms to see the views.
It was cold and wet while we were on the boat so we couldn't sit outside which was a shame. We spent 2 nights on the boat, and we all said in the tour that one night would have been plenty as it felt like there was a lot of travelling involved as when we got off the boat we then had another day travelling to our next destination...and especially as the boat wasn't that nice either!!!
