Since my last blog entry, I have been in a location that is more or less untouched by our civilization's standards. Which is why I haven't been using our civilisation's technology to make blog entries. Also because it wasn't possible till I got to wifi. I have taken this unique opportunity to write this blog entry now because I am avoiding two Mexican guys who must be high on coke judging by the amount they are attempting to talk to me despite the fact I said "see you later" three times. It is now the 26th of March and an opportune moment to write a summary of my stay in Barra de la Cruz. Behold.
First and foremost, this place is beautiful. I would have taken photos, but the camera just couldn't capture it the way my eye did, so I'm going to keep it in my memory for what it really is. Barra is a very small town of a few hundred people. Despite it's size, the food is great and the company is very entertaining. The common pastimes here are surfing, hammock resting, writing music, reading and eating. Hence is the reason that I had some of the best surfing sessions of my life. Even sessions that lacked quantity in waves were rich in quality of weather and aesthetics, because s***, this place is paradise.
The highlights were long waves, listening to Ron jam on his guitar in the afternoons, El Dragon's "Dragon" shrimp pizza, the beach restaurant's Omelette de Mariscos (seafood omelette), drinking wine with Beto, and my many opportunities to write lyrics.
I cannot forget to mention Puerto Escondido. This place (for those who don't already know) is probably the most famous wave in Mexico. Knowing this, I caught a bus there by myself and stayed in a Cabana right at La Punta (the point) for two nights. Surprisingly, for me the highlights weren't the surf, because it was so crowded that I couldn't catch waves. In saying that, it was great to see a lot of surfing talent out on the waves. The highlight for me at Puerto was the aesthetics. I saw the most beautiful sunset I've ever seen in my life. Unlike Barra, this could be captured well on camera ;) I also had the best Nachos I've ever had at a place called Cafecito.
Tonight I will catch an overnight-bus out of Barra to Oaxaca City, where I will spend my last day in Mexico and where I will (hopefully) post this blog. Next is Sao Paulo, Brazil...
LEARN OF THE LAST WEEK: If you can, make the effort to get there.
