Today we made our way to Edinburgh. We drove along the coast through the Kingdom of Fife and stopped in a couple pretty little towns. Scenery was amazing and there were tons of poppies that lined the roads, orange and red mixed with lush green with rolling hills or sea as a backdrop. I can't believe how beautiful Scotland is. Living in BC we are spoiled with mountains and ocean and I often think there is no where that can compare. Well the land of Scotland is sure a close second.
We eventually made it to our hotel just outside downtown Edinburgh and managed (barely) to not crash.
We did a quick hop on hop off circuit of Edinburgh and headed into Old Town and did an underground tour.
It's so interesting how the city developed as it was walled in during war with England as it grew. So it grew up and layers were built upon layers with narrow alley ways and stairs being the way to connect the streets. People were on top of people and you can only imagine what it would have been like. It was funny cause reading books by Charles Dickens was kind of what I thought England would have been like.
Such and old city and at the end what do you do with allllll these old buildings, well most are pubs or hotels and some even house subways, McDonalds and other modern shops. A bit weird to see but there is no shortage of these old style buildings.
