Honk, honk, honk, honk! The annoying alarm clock went off at 4:55am! God dam Chris, whenever we both agree on a time to get up in the morning he is always guaranteed to set it five or sometimes TEN minutes earlier! This frustrates me when he says it's because I never get up straight away! Who does?! So anyway we BOTH laid in bed for at least ten minutes then got ready for our dolphin trip this morning. It was too early for anywhere to be open for breakfast so we ate some biscuits instead.
We noticed our boat guy waiting for us outside our hotel, we said hello then just as we were leaving the night security guard stopped us and asked us where we were going and for our room number. We thought this was normal procedure so we told him and left.
A couple of minutes down the road and we both felt a bit chilly, it would be windy out at sea so we ran back to get our jackets, what we saw next shocked and pissed us right off! The light outside our room was on and the security guard was just on his way out of our door! You should have seen the look on his face when he turned around and saw us standing there! Immediately I ordered him to get back in our room and empty his pockets. "What the hell are you doing in our room we both asked?" I stood in the doorway so he couldn't make a run for it while Chris checked that all our valuable possessions were still in the room, luckily he always locks them away so nothing was missing. Chris asked the guard again what he was up to and the guy stammered as he tried to come up with excuses. "I, I, the light was on and I have to switch it off.."
"Bulls***! All our lights were off!" Chris said.
Then the guard walked into the bathroom stuttering "I, I, have to check the bathroom." We weren't convinced at all by his lame excuses. Luckily for him nothing was missing so there wasn't anything else we could do except wait until later to tell the hotel manager, so we let him leave. He had the guiltiest look on his face and apologised on his way out.
I was still really pissed off that he had been snooping around our things and we would never have known if we hadn't come back for our jackets. Chris was surprisingly calm about it all and told me to worry about it after the dolphin trip, but it wasn't easy to just forget about it.
We got onto the beach and Chris helped push the boat out into the water. It was quiet and still very dark but a light haze was appearing on the horizon where the sun was coming up. I carefully slipped into our very narrow wooden boat then Chris climbed in behind me. We both had a single seat in the front half of the boat while another couple sharing with us sat at the back. They didn't speak English and we didn't speak French so we couldn't be bothered to make conversation with each other. As we sped off we suddenly noticed all the other boats either side of us also leaving the shore. It wasn't quiet anymore, loud boat engines were roaring against each other as we all sped across the waves. We felt like we were in a boat race! I suppose we were really, a race to be the first to see the dolphins!
The sun was rising now and we could feel the warm rays on our faces. We were about fifteen minutes away from the shore when the boats all suddenly stopped and calmed their engines. We stared out with our eyes wide open and I had our camera ready. Last time we watched dolphins was in Cambodia, our camera wasn't fast enough to get a decent photo but this time we have our Cannon! Nothing happened for a moment but then another boats engine started up again and the rest followed! Our guide was pointing out and then we saw them, a small pod of spinner dolphins about fifty feet away. They were fast so we raced with the other boats to keep up with them, then they disappeared.
At first we weren't impressed, they were too far away and only showed for a short moment, but then some others appeared, and then some more! Dolphins were popping up here and there like it was a game for them. They didn't seem to mind the boats at all and jumped and swam right up next to them! We hoped a group would come closer to our boat and luckily for us after an hour some did! We were watching the left hand side when suddenly we heard a splash on our right. We all spun around but all we saw was a ring left in the water, the dolphins foot print. Then a few seconds later we saw them, a pod of four jumped right out of the water for us and kept on jumping until they were a little further ahead. I clumsily grabbed hold of the camera and managed to get a few decent shots which was fortunate because we didn't see many after that. We didn't mind though, we were so glad we finally got so close to them and it was amazing to see them in the wild where they belong.
We were still so excited and talking about it on our way back to shore that for the moment we had completely forgotten about the night security guard earlier. It wasn't until we were walking back to our hotel that we remembered and just like that we were feeling annoyed and pissed off again. The guard was no where to be seen but we found the managers in the restaurant. Before we could say anything they both apologised for the misunderstanding and that the guard had already told them what happened. He made up excuses of course and the managers were naive enough to believe him. They looked shocked and embarrassed once Chris had explained what really happened though. He was serious and a lot less calm about it than earlier. We told them we would be checking out and staying somewhere else as a result of what had happened, then out of no where Chris changed his mood, smiled at them and asked what time breakfast was!!! I almost choked on his words lol, I guess he was hungry!
After breakfast we walked out and found a room at a hotel called Sartaya Hotel just a minute down the road. It was about £3 more than where we stayed but it was a lot nicer! They had a really nice swimming pool and the room was gorgeous! So we packed our stuff and moved there straight away. We actually wished we had stayed there last night when we arrived. Perhaps the best thing about the room was having a tv, with Animal Planet, we love it! So after lunch we got our geek on and watched hours of it. Later on we went out for dinner. We ate in the cheap restaurant again and this time we had really yummy tuna and chilly wrapped up in banana leaf and fish cakes, they were so good! Think we will be back for more tomorrow.
