Ocean Park Theme Park.
We had such a fun day today at the theme park and aquarium, we acted like excited little children all day!
We got up early, bought a smoothie for breakfast but mine was horrible and I couldn't finish it. We caught a train to Admiralty station where we bought our tickets. They were cheaper to buy from the station than the theme park, only 250 HKD instead of 280 HKD. Then we got a bus for twenty minutes to the park, we wanted to be there as early as possible so it wasn't as busy.
As soon as we could hear the theme park music we both got excited like we were kids again. When we arrived at the entrance there was no que so we went straight in, grabbed a map and planned our route around the park. The park was split in two areas over a mountain, we decided to start on the other side so we jumped in a cable car. It took us up quite high, another couple sharing the car with us were nervous about the height but we thought it was great! We could see far out to sea and all the surrounding islands, I have to admit though, the drop down over the cliffs was pretty nerve racking.
Once we reached the other side we rushed over to a roller coaster called the Hair Raiser. It looked like the best ride in the park with lots of loops and steep drops over the edge of the mountain. We sat at the front so Chris could film it, his giggling in the video was quite funny. When we checked our photo afterwards we could see why it was named hair raiser lol!
We went on another big ride which made us feel a bit sick. Chris kept going on about how lovely the views were lol idiot!
A curious eagle kept flying really close to us while we sat on the big swings, they also made us feel a bit sick so we took a break and went to get something to eat.
After eating we went on a water ride, we wouldn't have got so wet if there wern't kids standing on a bridge waiting to squirt us with water! We found the water guns later and had a go ourselves lol.
The park began to get busier in the afternoon but we still didn't have to wait long to go on a ride. We walked through the rainforest area. I really liked it and Chris had to drag me out! There were teeny tiny monkeys, they were so cute and curious! I could have watched them all day if Chris had let me but he wanted to go on more rides lol.
So we walked into another area of the park, none of the rides had ques and they looked a bit boring but Chris wanted to go on them so we did. The first one was the runaway train. To try and make it feel better we decided to sit at the back and keep looking behind us so we didn't know what was going to happen.
Well oh my god! It was brilliant and probably my favourite ride. It didn't have any loops but it was quite fast and by not knowing what was coming next made it all the more frightening. I recommend anyone to try facing backwards on a ride they haven't been on before. We went on again but this time we kept our eyes closed. (lol are we sad?) It wasn't as good the second time round.
Chris made me go on a ride I knew would make us both feel sick, it was horrible. We were in little aeroplanes that spun round in a circle so fast until we were stuck to the walls of it. We didn't have anything holding us in because we didn't need it. I felt awful afterwards, no wonder there wasn't anyone queuing for it.
There was a dolphin show beginning at 5pm, we had just enough time to squeeze in a few more rides before it began. So we rushed over to the Raging River which I thought was rubbish, the pirate ship then the Abiss with its fifty two meter drop, same as Detonator at Thorpe Park but smaller. This one had the longest que but actually wasn't that great. So now I believe most Hong Kongians prefer the less scary rides.
So that was the last of the rides, we made our way to the Dolphin Theatre and sat right at the top. It was set high up on the mountain and there was a sea view behind the stage. A live band was playing salsa music until a sea lion came on with a voice over, She welcomed us to the theatre then introduced her Dolphin friends. The voice over was in English and Chinese and the story was about humans and animals coming together, or something like that. The dolphins were great, especially when one of them rammed it's trainer into the wall, Chris was pissing himself! lol.
When it finished everyone rushed to leave. It was dark now and a lot of people were beginning to make their way back home. We wanted to stay and visit the Aquarium but Chris wanted to go on the Hair Raiser roller coaster again, so we rushed over and ended up going on it twice in a row as there was no que. We took the Ocean Express train back through the mountain instead of the cable car this time. It was designed to look futuristic and feel like we were traveling under water. Screens above us played videos of sea animals swimming past and there was sound to go along with it. It looked cool but not convincing enough.
Before we walked into the Aquarium we walked around the Giant Panda enclosure. There were two of them and they were both fast asleep. One fell asleep right by the window, the Panda was oblivious to the number of tourists crouching by the window to get a good photo with it, me included.
Finally we left and went into the Aquarium. The park was due to close so we had to hurry through. I wish we had longer in there it was really cool, the best Aquarium I have been to so far. The best part was walking under the really big fish section with lots of different kinds of sea creatures such as manta rays, sting rays, spotted eagle rays, leopard sharks, reef sharks, hammer head sharks, giant tunas, giant treveli's, and big ugly napoleon fish. We both could have stayed there for hours watching them swim by, it would be amazing to dive in, but eventually we were told to leave by security.
We were both really tired from all the walking today so when we got back to our hostel we both just calapsed in bed.
