Hello!
Just to let you know I made it here fine (only after some rather tearful goodbyes at manchester airport!). I had my first experience of sleeping overnight in an airport at Doha then carried onto Nairobi this morning. Then I arrived at Nyumbani Orphanage about 3pm today. Sister Julie took me on the tour and introduced me to everyone, she also drove me into Karen centre to buy some essentials and a sim card etc. The Orphange is a beautiful place and in so many ways the children are so lucky as they are so well looked after (and a little bit spoiled!) but it's so easy to forget when you see them dashing around on scooters and bikes that every one of them is poorly with HIV or AIDS. Definatly going to take a while to get my head around it all.
Theres wifi here at the orphanage but tomorrow i leave with two of the other volunteers that have been here a while to the Nyumbani Village about 3 hours away. That's when the real adventure starts, we we had pizza at a nearby italian place to celebrate the last night of normal food. I'll also be having a nice hot shower here tomo as that will be my last while im here.
Im hoping to sort internet out at the village so will write my next post from there!
Hope you're well and happy!
Lots of Love xxxx

Anna Gowdridge Sounds like your first few days have gone well - I'm excited to hear how you find the village. It's great you have some other new volunteers to head there with. Simon said he told you to try and stop for samosas in Machakos on the way - they are great!
