Thinking Koh Lipe may be just like Phi Phi, another party backpacker island spoilt with ramshackle accommodation, busy streets and littered beaches... Thankfully I was wrong. Koh Lipe was the most beautiful thai island I have experienced. The sea was so incredibly blue, the beaches were pristine and even in peak season it did not seem very busy. You could still find a quiet spot on the beach, snorkel in the clearest waters without being run over by a longtail and walk down walking street without being offered a bucket. Our favourite beach was sunrise beach as it looks over to Koh Adang and has a white sand bar that steeply drops into the water, meaning you could jump from the sand straight into the water like a turquoise swimming pool. On Oli's birthday we gained our adventure divers license with Koh Lipe Diving. We had already done our deep water adventure dive at Hin Muang so we needed two more. We did our peak performance buoyancy which involved using our lungs to move up and down in the water to hit various markers. The second dive was just a fun dive at Stonehenge- the best dive site around Koh Lipe. It was amazing, so many fish everywhere and many that we hadn't seen before. The last dive was a night dive. We met back at the dive shop and took the longtail to the moored dive boat on Pattaya beach and jumped in at sunset. After a navigation test we were free to investigate the darkening waters with our torches. We even covered our torches at one point, waved our hands and we saw lots of phosphofluorescent plankton. It was quite an experience and one we will never forget. To top it all off, they recognised that it was Oli's birthday and gave us a free T-shirt each :)
We loved Koh Lipe and I endeavour to go back to explore it further.
