Week 5- Vietnam (Hoi An) Day 5
So today we were moving onto our next place in our adventure. We were leaving DaNang and off to Hoi An, we were both incredibly excited for Hoi An and we were certainly not left disappointed when we arrived. We got up and went for breakfast which was disgusting and a lad found a hair in his food so by this point we were desperate to leave! We packed our rucksacks and got moving pretty early!
We had to get a local bus and were told to stand on the side of the road and when a yellow bus comes down the road wave it down! So we set off to find the road we needed to be on.. We were sweltering! We waited for about 10 minutes and then saw the bus going in the other direction, we were worried we were on the wrong side of the road! Luckily a few minutes later the bus came down our side of the road. Getting on the bus was an experience in itself! The bus doesn't actually stop... There is a man that basically jumps off grabs your bag throws them on and then throws you on! It was absolutely hilarious and I thought I was close to leaving Gemma behind! The bus took about an hour but we were kept very entertained watching the chaos of locals jumping on and off! The driver also played crazy Vietnamese music really loud!
Once we arrived in Hoi An we were soon made aware that the only way to get to our home stay was by getting on the back of a motorbike. So we took a deep breath and went along with it! We laughed so much because we had rucksacks and all sorts with us too! Gemma was wearing her rucksack on the back of the bike and thought she was going to fall off backwards! Her driver was particularly bombing it down the road! Thankfully the drive was only about 10 minutes (5 for Gem ha).
As soon as we stepped off the motorbike we could tell Jackfruit home stay was going to be incredible! The workers came running out to help with our bags and made us fresh lemon juice straight away! We are pretty sure it's one big family and all their partners! They live in the house attached to the home stay! We were soon shown to our room which was lovely, really big, CLEAN and very modern. We knew we were going to love it here!
The home stay provided free bicycles which was awesome, it gave us a bit more freedom and meant we could get about without worrying about spending too much on tuk tuks etc. we decided to cycle down to the beach to check it out! The bike ride was so scenic (mum would have loved it!) and took us about 15/20 minutes. Although at one point we were so lost and we soon realised we were cycling in the wrong direction!
Once we got back from the beach the lady from the home stay said they she could give us a cooking class. We were both really excited about this! We said we wanted to cook local dishes so she set off to the market to buy our ingredients! The cooking class was really good, her brother did the actual cooking and she did the translating! Her English is very good, we have spent a lot of time speaking with her! We cooked spicy chicken wings, garlic morning glory, fresh spring rolls and rice! We will definitely have to make it for our families when we are home! It was so simple yet tasted so good! The lady had been telling us about her brothers tailors shop in town, we agreed to visit it in the morning because we both wanted a few things made! It also had 5 stars on trip advisor! So after a brilliant first day in Hoi An we headed off to sleep!
