Since reading the Devil and the White City, a book about the Chicago world fair at the end of the 19th century, I'd wanted to see the remaining buildings of the fair, which was meant to be incredible. After a well deserved pancake breakfast we headed over to the only remaining fair building - Chicago's famous Museum of Science and Industry. It was the fair's art building and was beautiful.
We spent several hours looking around as it was really interesting, the highlights being exploring inside a real German submarine captured in the Second World War, seeing baby chicks hatch, the human body exhibit and walking through a hurricane machine.
After we spent a little time walking around Jackson Park, in particular one of the only other survivors of the fair - the Japanese gardens. They were really beautiful, even if it had started to rain quite heavily at that point!
We then went over to the old town and met Nancy for dinner at a lovely Italian restaurant, and had a fab time! Later we took shelter in a Starbucks (the rain was torrential) and went to the Blue Chicago club to see some blues bands play. It was really cool and we loved it, the perfect end to our time in Chicago!
