Today we spent the morning planning then headed off at lunch to Sucre in a collectivo - a shared taxi. The journey apparently takes 3-4 hours on a bus, and our insane taxi driver did it in just under two hours. He hurled around the windy road so fast and we watched in horror as he nearly crashed several times. We were absolutely terrified, he was like a man possessed. I suppose we should have suspected when we saw his window made of sellotape and the seat belts that had been cut out...
When we arrived in Sucre a bit shaken up we headed up a massive hill (not what we needed with our bags) to our hostel, which was just next to the historic Recoleta, and very pretty. Sucre is stunning, it is the former lead city in Bolivia (technically also still the capital, although La Paz has all the main functions) and is full of beautiful colonial streets, all white buildings and terracotta roofs. It's like Santorini, and we just wandered around for a while.
Because it's so pretty it attracts lots of expats, so there were lots of nice restaurants to pick from. We had an amazing Thai dinner - better than at home!
