Sydney here we come!!! we arrived in our hostel in Bondi beach after a 14 hour bus trip, all very excited, it was a quick u-turn to check out the sites of Bondi beach. We have been so lucky the good weather seems to be following us around. In the evening we splashed out on a smart dinner in the city overlooking the Sydney Harbour bridge. very nice it was too!
The following day we caught the bus into town, and then took the ferry across to Manly beach. The whole place was just stunning and it was a real shame not to have been able to stay there. Matt and Charlie had a bit of a near death experience in the sea, with such strong currents it was difficult to get out. The life gaurd was blowing his whistle which is all very helpful when you are stuck in the sea, but fear not after a bit of frantic front crawl they made it back to land.
The evening was spent having a bbq in the hostel, meeting all of the travellers staying there. Needless to say the vino was flowing, then it was off to Bondi for a bit of a dance.
Saturday was a great day, we caught the tram into the Fish Market for a bit of a look round and something tasty for dinner. The market claims to have 15million tonnes of fish! For dinner we brought a whole squid!!! Yes a squid-eyes and tentacles and all. We named our squid Squidge, as our German traveler friend Sven had a little trouble with the pronounciation of Squid. So Squidge travelled round with us for the rest of the afternoon, we went for a look round Paddy's market, which sold just about everything. Then it was back to the hostel to cook up our feat of Prawns, Squid, Swordfish and Tuna.
Everyone at the hostel was fascinated as to how in fact we were going to actually cook our whole Squid, but dinner turned out to be an absolutely feast in the courtyard of the hostel. Charlie also partaking in playing the guitar, the next Jack Johnson for sure!!!!
The next day we headed to the Harbour and organised a tour around the Opera House. The woman was very enthusiastic and informative. We'd spent the last few days wondering about the architecture of the building so at last our questions were answered. Was interesting to find out that it took 14 yrs to build, altho the govt at the time had only given them 6 yrs! And the original budget was $7 million but it actually cost $103 million!!!
