Needless to say, we were all pretty shattered and were looking forward to a solid night's sleep. Ha! Tony and I were both wide awake at 2am. We had drunk our whole stock of coffee and tea by 6am - including the Earl Grey and the Green Tea and went to breakfast at 6.30. By 9am we had been for a walk through Bangkok city to a small park (Lumphini) packed with joggers and old folks doing Tai Chi. Even this early, there are families picnicing. We also saw a 4-5ft long lizard lounging (lounge lizard - get it?) in the sun. Will download photo shortly. Got back to the hotel to wake the kids for breakfast - not surprisingly, they'd had no trouble sleeping and were just coming to! Thanks for all your messages. What a lovely surprise!

Same day!! After waking up kids for breakfast, lots of muttering from Sherie about being woken up at 09.20 instead of 09.30, headed off to try to get a view of Bangkok from the river. After showing taxi driver where we wanted to go, Taxi driver proceeded to take us in the opposite direction, 47 Baht (75P) later we arrived at a smaller pier than expected, little did we know that the owner was the taxi driver's brother-in-law.10 minutes later and 3,000 Baht poorer (£46) we were off down the river with the wind in our face and the sun on our backs, even the dead dog floating past did not put a dampener on the trip. Rounding a bend of the river some time later, paddling towards us was a floating souvenir seller, how unexpected, after a round of vicious haggling, proceeded down the klong with an unwanted elephant made of unknown materials, possibly plastic, one more house warming item for James' house. Two hours later after an impromptu stop at the Thornibur Snake and Crocodile farm, we tied up back at the pier after paying a tip (Hostage Fee) to the driver to not off load us in the middle of the river.Next stop was a visit via the sky train to a "Shopping Centre" to try to complete Sheries quest for a Nintendo DS light. We failed. Charlton family then split up into younger and older, younger still on the quest and older for food and drink, settled for soup noodles and Lemon Grass drink. Back to hotel for more free cocktails then out for noodles and chillies and more Thai cultural singing and dancing. And so to bed.
