We arrived in KL and checked into our hostel after getting hassled by about 20 different people trying to get us in a taxi. Headed out for some authentic Malaysian cuisine....KFC! Met some guys who were living there for a while who showed us around for a bit before we went off to bed as we had an early start to go up the Petronas Towers the next morning.
Walked over the Sky Bridge, took in the view of the city and watched a crazy '3D' show that told us a bit about the towers. Walked over to Merdeka Square in Little India and then Chinatown which was a bit of a kerfuffle and we kept managing to get lost, found our way in the end though! Went out that evening with the friends we had met the day before who took us to a few bars that happened to be full of fat English men with their Thai brides!
We went off the next day to book our jungle trek to Taman Negara and did a bit of window shopping in Times Square (shopping centre with 10 floors and an inside theme park that Char and Maz went to! Great fun! Ate lots of food and got ready for our trip the next day.
Caught our bus to the jungle in the morning, followed by another bus then a 3 hour ride in a Long boat which was sooo near the water level we really thought all the water was going to come in the side! That night we did a night jungle walk where we saw lots of different insects (including a scorpion!) an anteater and some deer amongst other things. In the morning we set off to do the Canopy Walkway- the longest of its kind at 150m and 50m above the ground! It was much fun and we all survived to tell the tale! This was followed by a 2hour trek through the jungle where we have never sweated so much in our lives!!!! But the view at the top made it all worthwhile!
That afternoon after lunch we went on a shooting rapids boat ride where we were prewarned that we would get wet....and indeed we did!! We were all absolutely drenched and laughing our arses off as wave after wave flew at our faces! We stopped off at the Orang Asli tribe where we were shown how to make fire out of material from the jungle and also how they make the darts they use to shoot monkeys out of the trees. We got to have a go at shooting a cuddle toy and all got so so near it but didn't quite manage to hit it. On our way back we all jumped out the boat for a swim and painted each other with dye from pebbles in the water.
That evening we went on a night safari where we were sat either on the roof or in the back of the jeep and saw some tree snakes, 2 sivets& some birds. We really wanted to see a Slow Loris but no sign of them that night....selfish! The next day we got on a bus over to the Perhentian Islands on the north east coast of the country. Stayed on Kecil (the smaller island) which is so tiny and beautiful and it only has electricity between 7pm and 7am. We had a little bungalow just back from the sea and the island is so chilled out and relaxing. Spent the next few days lounging around on the beach (when it wasn't raining!) playing around in the rather choppy sea, Maz and Kell went for a jog and had an evening out with some friends we met in the jungle.
We then had 1 night in Kota Bharu so we were ready the next morning to cross the border into Thailand...
