Morning guys...
So right now we are in Delhi. The last time i wrote we were about to go on a boat trip on the ganges. It was really good but is the strangest place ever. Their are people washing in the water next to kids playing next to floating bodies next to someone having a s***....whats that all about! The burning ghats see between 200 - 300 bodies a day, each taking up to 3 hours so you can imagine the sights.well actually thats the thing, no matter how many pictures i take i dont think it would show half of what this place is about. There are 5 holy deaths and if a person dies one of theses ways, ie by a snake bite or children, they are not allowed to be burnt so have to be put into the water. The bodies are tied up with rope and covered in sheets then attached to a rock and literally put in the water. We watched one body go in. It was hard, the body wasnt even completely covered, you could see the heels and feet poking out the end. The families dont look sad either, its a totally different approach to death. Im pretty sure more of us westerners were more moved by the whole thing than the family watching. But for them its a celebration of life. We saw an evening ceremony too which was really good, there were lots of people and dancers making offerings to the gods.
We had an overnight train to agra which was fine, trains are dead easy and dirt cheap. It was 16 hours long though. We were sat playing uno and this random indian dude joined us and started chatting. He picked up jons phone and asked if he had any dirty vids!! Then we got into a discussion about indian attitude towards sex. He said that the reason indian blokes are so into white women is because they watch a lot of porn. He didnt understand how me and jon werent together so to save hassle weve resorted to telling people were cousins. Once he started asking how long white peole "go for" we backed away and headed for bed!
Agra was okay, we spent 2 days there. The first day we hit a market and the agra fort which had wicked views of the taj. We met a guy from the us who was staying in our hotel s headed out for some food with him. Got up early to hit the taj at 6 to avoid midday heat and all the jap tourists. The taj really is amazing, its the kinda place that literally does take your breath away. It could take my eyes of it it is so stunning. Its all very symetrically, which i guess has something to do with the whole perception of beauty. Up close it has loads of detailed flowers outlined and inside the work is very intricate. For the rest of the day we explored the city - i got my ring (have decided to get one from every area we got to! -finances permitting!!) For me it was one of those places ive been to and done and have no reason to go back to, there really isnt much else there worth seeing, compared to all the ther places weve been to and the things weve got left to do.
We got an early morning train to delhi 2 day ago. Were staying on a strip of the main bazzar which is wicked. the street is packed with traveller type stools, cafes and bars. The shopping is amazing, i want everything!! from old fashioned jeweller boxes to shessha pipes. oh and lots of jewellery!............
Were going to head to the red fort today and then maybe some other sight seeing but its soo ht hear you just have to take it as it comes and cant really plan that far ahead. We have planned to head up to the corbett tiger reserve next where you can go on safari on an elephant!!! than the idea is to jump back n the traveller trail and head to kullu and manali which is north near the mountains and is alot cooler.
Ad, sorry we got cut off early, ill call you again over the next couple of days.
