Hey Guys,
Thanks for all the messages, good to hear your all okay. We are now in Varanasi ( river ganges) We took a sleeper train from Kolkata at 8 and arrived here at 11. Train ride was okay, taught the locals how to play uno which was kool and met some really sweet kids and played with a hackysack with them. We were met by a tuktuk driver from our hostel. It was the first time we'd been in one and it was horrific! The drivers cant drive right up to the hostels as the roads get to small so we had to walk a while, luckily for me the guy carried my pack! Just total madness, funny though. The hostel we're staying in is pretty basic but it has a roof top bar resturant open 24hours which is a wicked place to meet other travellers. Yesterday we went to a swimming pool to cool off from the 45 degree heat and then had a massage which was funny because from what i could hear jons male therapist wasnt all that keen on him keeping his pants on...but sensitive subject! Last night we sat on the roof playing cards for a bit then drinking beer and chatting to everyone which was kool, got to meet some really awsome people who are heading over to thailand soon aswell. Its really easy to meets other travellers and everyone is so laid back and easy to get on with. I ended up hitting my room about 2ish, but didnt sleep until 5 due tyo the swealtering heat! i ended up having a shower at about half four just to cool down.
We were playing to get up early for sunrise boat trip on the ganges but have both agreed to do that tomorrow as we have a long train ride up to agra so it doesnt matter if we get tired. We went to book our train tickets this morning and i ended up getting perved on by loads of weird men at which point my tuktuk driver who im getting on with well ending up telling then all to f**k off and perv o someone they are likely to be able to get...which i found hillarious! will not be going out in shorts again! Then we went to a silk factory which was amazing to see and employs 20% of the poeple living in varanasi. I bought some really beautiful material which ive sent home cos its bloody heavy! At 5 we are going on a boat trip on the river for sunset and to watch the ceremonies - being that we are staying right behind a burning ghat im not sure it will be a plesent experience but one ill never get again. Its a very odd place, at night it looks more spooky than holy and is very still and hung. The air isnt clear, its really hazey which probably makes it look worse. The area has a huge amount of hospices as people hope by dying here they will be cremated here which means they go direct to heaven rather than reincarnate.
Tomorrow we get the night train to agra but im not sure how long we will stay there for as have heard its not all that traveller friendly (cheap!!!)
Anyways im off on my boat trip will be in touch soon
Love you all xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
