I have been researching for the last few years about teaching overseas. I originally was looking at South Korea as it would allow for me to get back to where I was born. It would be an easy way to work and travel within the country all at once and at my leisure. I just have not found the best recruiter or company to go through to make that happen.
Recently, I started looking into Abu Dhabi, Dubai or Qatar as possible destinations for teaching. I am always up for a new adventure and also do have some financial motives as a few years there could easily get myself completely out of debt or at least very close while being able to save money as well.
Obviously, its a far distance away from where my family and friends are but it would be at least 2.5 years and thats really not that long of time. If things worked out well then it would be another 2 years and would definiltey be in a much stronger financial standpoint.
Pros for moving overseas:
- Financial gains (tax free salary, paid for accommodations, yearly flight back home, healthcare paid for)
- Ability to travel
- Shorter workday than I currently have
- Challenge myself to get better as a teacher and person
- Opportunities to grow and mature
- Upward mobility
Cons for moving overseas:
- Far away from family and friends
- Missing certain milestones of important people
- What to do with all of my stuff?
- Not knowing anyone and having to find my place all over again
In the end, I know its the best move financially for me and I feel its also the best move for me personally at this point also. Even if the teaching aspect does not work out, being financially stable will be a huge gain. Right now I am eyeballs deep in debt and no real way to get clear of them in my current position.
I completed application and telephone interview and only have face to face interview to complete. I also have paperwork that I need to get signed off on and completed in order to make the move happen. Have not heard yet about dates for the interview but I do know the closest place would be Houston to do my interview.
So we must all remember..changes are inevitable, make the most of them!
