So that’s it, no work for the next 17 days – and only had to take 5 days out of my annual leave in the end, thanks to working a weekend and those generous bank holidays. Even managed to leave work early with my bid managers blessing and a host of various ‘good lucks’ from well-wishers.
At the station now, on way up to Kidderminster. Still feeling a bit daunted about the whole thing, but really looking forward to getting on with it and getting that first day completed. I’ve designed the ride so I have the longest distances at the beginning of the trip, and decreasing slightly in mileage towards the end. Oxford to Portsmouth is going to be a hard second day in terms of distance, and some fairly busy roads, but my ferry doesn’t leave until late, and I’ve got a nice large 4 berth cabin all to myself to relax in overnight.
Spent yesterday evening painstakingly mapping out my proposed route (through France) onto a map to take with me, but relying on Google map print outs for the English & Spanish legs, as I’m looking to carry minimal amounts with me. I do plan to intensely study the first few miles out of Kidderminster for tomorrows departure, as they’ll be nothing more embarrassing than waving goodbye to the expected crowd at the Unit opening, cycling to the end of the road, and then consulting a map!
Incidentally, look forward to seeing those of you that can make it to the official opening of the Unit tomorrow in Kidderminster, should be a great day. More details and pictures of the Unit that the Foundation now has up and running at: http://www.theemilyjordanfoundation.org.uk/news.htm, make sure you check it out.
Lastly, great news – I hit my target of £2,500 yesterday! Accordingly I’ve upped the target, and hope you can still encourage others to sponsor me. A huge thank you to all who have donated so far.
