A bus ride to remember.
After 2 hours sleep on the plane and a four hour time difference the last thing I felt like doing was tackling a freezing city. First of all the bus ride in $16 one way... For a public bus... Shwat? Second of all it was like 10 degrees. And I don't handle the cold very well... Hence why I chose tropical destinations in most of my travels.
So in the city I have been on a river cruise where we are not allowed to do anything outlined because of bad weather and dangerous seas. Done bog laps of the city malls to keep warm and eventually given in and bought some gloves and some warm lunch. But as the day goes on it doesn't seem to be getting any warmer. If anything it was getting colder. I decide that I can't deal with the cold anymore and was going to go back to the airport.
As i get on the bus it starts to sprinkle and I think that I made the right choice to get of the street. I sit there in my sleepy daze and watch the rain bead down the front windscreen. About 10 minutes into the trip I notice that the water has stopped beading and rather is just sticking to the windscreen and being wiped away with the windscreen wipers.
Still not realizing what was going on I look out the side window and think to myself that it is raining really slowly. Then the old lady in front of me says to her husband that it is snowing.
That's when i realize that it is snowing!!! And that i am trapped inside the stupid bus unable to touch it.
I think the old lady sensed my excitement and she talked to me about how it doesn't snow much in Auckland and how there was some unusual cold front that moved in. But I was prob a bit rude and just stared out the window.
By the time we got to the airport it was sunny and there was no piles of snow for me to make a snowman out of.
But I will always remember this bus trip for the first time I saw snow! :)
