Excited to head out this morning for a chance to see the famous Right Whales of the North Atlantic. We drove up to Plymouth Bay and had a chance to see a replica of the original Mayflower, the ship which brought the pilgrims over in the year 1620.
We left promptly on a large boat with Captain John's Whale Watching. The day was beautiful with the temperature in the high 60's. With the summer season over, the boat was only about half full so the conditions were perfect for seeing some big whales.
After about 45 minutes of enjoying the views of the Massachusetts coast, it wasn't long before we saw the first cresting of a whale!
Before you know it, there were several whales around us and it was incredible to observe the grace and efficiency of these massive mammals as they scooped up mouthful after mouthful of small fish.
At one point, there were at least 7 whales visible around the boat. Ove the course of the cruise we saw over 25 sightings. Even the boat crew told us they had never seen so many whales on one cruise. Amazing.
For some reason we were both exhausted as we made it back to the condo.
