We woke and went straight to breakfast at the Hotel Adele...I was still half asleep. Back to the room where we packed for our train ride to Milan and headed out. We walked the 1 km to the train station, which seemed long until we got to Milan. :-)
The train was a fun experience, not many passengers and very comfortable. It was a nice chance to see the northern Italian countryside go by as we relaxed for two hours.
We arrived in Milan and it was here where I made my one big tactical mistake of the trip. I decided the hotel was too close for a taxi and so we would hike the 3/4 mile to our destination. I forgot to consider three things: 1) it was hot outside; 2) the city has a subway system just outside the train station; and 3) the suitcases and backpack I was carrying weighed at least 130 pounds! I almost croaked but we made it and Lynn was a good sport about it...even if the first thing we did when we got to our room was to take showers since we were soaked in sweat!
Oh well...
We decided to stay in our comfortable room and rest up for our travel home the next day but around 7 pm we decided to go get some
dinner; the hotel's restaurant was too expensive so went for a walk, following my Trip Advisor app for suggested eateries. Before we knew it, we had walked almost a mile and most of the places were closed. Why, I don't know.
We finally found a lovely little hole in the wall with the nicest waiter and enjoyed a quiet, romantic dinner for two alone upstairs.
Enjoyed the walk back with some Italian ice cream and packed up before crashing for the night.
We'll be home tomorrow!
