13th February – Arrived at airport @ 07.10. Immigration took a long time, queues queues queues! Got to hotel at 9.30 am ish and had to wait in foyer for 20 mins for room to be ready. Bad time as couldn’t get drink or anything. Went up to room and dumped off bags and cases, then walked into the city via the riverside to get some brunch. Ended in Clarkes Quay, just as restaurant and shops were opening at 11.00. Singapore is decorated everywhere for the beginning of their New Year, the year of the rabbit. Had a lovely snack and then continued to walk around the city to Chinatown and ended up walking back to hotel exhausted! Had showers and went up to swimming pool & Jacuzzi for a quick dip. Then we gave in and had a sleep at 3.30 ish for an hour or so. Had to be ready in foyer for 18.00 as we had booked a Night Tour. Picked up by minibus to be taken to Singapore Flyer (same as the London Eye) to be dispersed into the correct coaches for different tours. Off we went for the 1st stop of dinner at 19.00 at Robertson’s Quay in a traditional Chinese restaurant (spring rolls don’t match anything like Mich Matthews ones, you still rule Mich!). 10 people around a table who you have never met before all sharing the same dishes (you can only imagine Ades enthusiasm!!) Odd! 2nd stop a river cruise, lovely and relaxing, went all the way down to the Marina Sands Bay Hotel and back again. The city is fabulously lit up at night. 3rd stop pewter shop, too expensive! 4th stop Raffles Hotel, Long bar. Had to have the obligatory Singapore Sling, 30 dollars each!! works out about £20 each. I know, but you have got to do it when you have come so far! Back to hotel and bed with a nightcap of a whiskey at 11pm. Well we did it, got ourselves into the Aussie time zone.

Vicki Wow, you made the most of your first day there...sounds fab. Not every day you get to go to the Raffles so hang the costs... sure they were worth every penny!!
