So Penang...where to begin?? Well we left Phi Phi on tuesday...so sad to see it go and we got the boat that morning to Krabi where we were to get an airconditioned minibus down through thailand to Penang, Malaysia. Now I use the term "bus"....very loosely, could probably put the term airconditioned in that category too! We arrived at the port and were picked up by the agency we booked with and the driver took us over to the bus......a glorified toyota hi-ace I think Steph compared it to! It was hilarious, seated 12 and was full..all the way to Penang, a lovely 10 hour bus journey! Never mind the fact that the bus was teeny tiny and absolutely roasting but our fellow passengers were something else...lets see. There was Serial Killer Man, Bobble headed English lady on the run from her ex-boyfriend who didn't shut up the whole way there, dodgy foreign scuba instructer man, scary big blonde German man and the four quiet thai ladies up front. It was, needless to say a very eventful journey!
So we crossed the border into Malaysia without any problems and finally ended up in Georgetown, Penang. Our driver took us to a hostel called Banana Guest house so we set up camp there for the next few days. And also to our delight, serial killer man was staying here too (he kept trying to talk to us but we're experts at avoiding the weirdos....he was going to Penang to renew his visa, turns out he was from Newcastle.....we reckon he was in the thai bride business)
Anyway....we decided to stay in Georgetown for the two nights and not head for the beach area as we were heading for Pangkor Island in a few days. After eating some yummy satay from street food vendor we conked out cos it was bloody impossible to sleep on that so called bus!!!
The next morning we headed for the botanical gardens and the monkey park. We weren't there 5 minutes and were ooohing and awing at all the monkeys when a monkey came legging it over to Steph and grabbed the bottle of water out of her hands! It was soooo funny and I managed to contain myself enough to take a couple of photos! That night we stayed in the hostel and had a few beers with these two aussie lads who we spent the night winding up...they thought Paddy's day was next week so we couldn't resist taking the piss!
The next morning we were headed for Pangkor Island...watch this space!
