So on Monday we left Pangkor and headed back to Lumut to catch a bus to Kuala Lumpur...which was again another posh bus - gotta love the Malaysian bus system! We had a room booked in Equator hostel in KL and when we got off the bus in the city (after sleeping the entire way there) we had absolutely no idea where to go! This random guy pulled up beside us on a scooter and asked us where we were looking to go and gave us directions! That would so never happen back home!! So we walked in the general direction where he pointed to and hoped for the best! The hostel was near the "times square" of Kl which we thought was an actual square but turned out its actually a gigantic shopping mall, so once we found that, we found our hostel....the joy of it, cos lugging those bags around the city in blazing heat isn't as much fun as it sounds! The hostel was fantastic...really nice and the girl working there was Hady and she was so helpful!
Tuesday morning we went exploring, caught the monorail out to the KLCC Complex where we saw the Petronas Towers (highest twin towers in the world!) and went wandering around the ginormous shopping mall beside them......soooo many shops it was unreal! We had to show great restraint! Then we went to the aquarium which was amazing! That night we walked through all the chinese markets which is full of everything you could ever want to buy! BArgaining back and forth is hilarious!
The next morning we were headed for the Orphan elephant Sanctuary. Hady in the hostel recommended a tour guide for us cos you can't get there by bus so this guy picked us up in the morning and drove us out there. On theway he stopped at various touristy sights etc and he did not shut up the whole way there - it was so funny! When we got on the road to the Elephant Sanctuary (it was a two hour drive) Steph and I fell asleep in the car....think he was upset that he didn't have anyone to talk to! Before we saw the elephants, we stopped at a wildlife park and got to feed a herd of deer, held a python around my neck, petted a black bear cub, fed the freaky ostriches and other various animals! And then on to the highlight of our day.......elephants!! We watched a documentary and then went out to see them. It was amazing...we got to watch them have baths...we were supposed to be able to bath with them in the river but it was flooded from the rain.....but then we were able to feed them and rub them and then we went for a ride on a giant one! It was absolutely amazing! There are some amazing photos to come! Watch this space!!
