Well, it's been 9 months since I returned from Namibia and as promised to myself, I've made it back out! I personally think Jordan and I are remarkable for not even waiting a year to get our asses back out... Keen beans. Best volunteers. Har har har.
This time round I'm only out for 6 weeks, however roughly 3 of those will be spent back up north at Otjikondo where I spent my Gap Year, no doubt keeping busy! The other 3 weeks I am spending with Stephnie and her family! - Jordan and I's 'Namibian familiy' in other words.
Being back in Namibia doesn't at all feel strange, the minute I landed in Windhoek everything felt so familiar to me that I instantly felt back at home. I feel so priviledged to be able to feel so comfortable in such a huge country so far away from Scotland after only living there for a year. It makes me confident that I'll continue to visit Namibia in the future, as long as I can afford the flight!
I had this epic vision of coming back to Namibia and leaving with such a beautiful tan. This is unfortunately not going to happen. It's pretty bloody baltic during the mornings and nights and when we're not outside trying to keep warm, we're inside with the HEATER ON. Yes. AFRICA WITH A RADIATOR. Not to forget two blankets and a hot water bottle at night. CRAAAZY s***. Ain't stopping us prancing around in shorts and vest tops in the midst of crowds of Namibians wearing winter jackets and scarfs! We keep having to remind ourselves that we're Scottish and therefore can handle the cold.
Jordan and I have definitely made an immense decision to come back out to Namibia so soon, but we can't deny how much we're missing the Gqaina Lads! It just doesn't feel the same not seeing our fellow volunteers here and there! Oh to be a Gap Yah prat again.
So far I've been in Namibs for 5 days and with plenty to fill up the next 5 and a bit weeks, I'm sure I'll have plenty to waffle about to those who wish to hear/read! I was hopelessly crap at blogging last year so I'm determined to be better this time round!
Off to help prepare for our first braii of the holiday! Can't wait, they just aren't the same in Scotland! (Stewart, Scott & Jack: Jordan and I will eat plenty for yah.)
Hope everyone has a lekker summer - we shalllllll!
Take Care,
Cat.
