So the ski season ended for me on 13th March. Pretty much month early. When thinking back the moment that I arrived to the moment that I left, time did fly. Even when first arriving I thought I would leave the next week, I have never lived so middle of nowhere. But so the time went, and I were able to enjoy the magical mountain and almost everything that it had to offer. I do regret, not doing nordic or cross-country skiing when I was living on the mountain where the worlds best are training, maybe next time.. I went tubing, snowshoeing, snowmobiling, bowling, iceskating and learned how to snowboard and rocked some blue runs!! Even I hurted myself twice and I am still alive and no bones broken (although my shoulder still hurts from the last fall).
And don't forget all the partying... And just basically having fun with all the forms that could think of.
A great word for my roommate Kimba, if it wasn't for her, I would left the first week in December. Thanks to her, I stayed and couldn't ask for better (crazier) friend!
As last June when I did my first Skype interview I was told it was going to be the best 6 months of my life (well actually 4 but anyway), it wasn't, but still I am happy that I left and experienced it, without those great people around me who made awesome for us, it would not been close what it came down to.
So the ski season went and I worked hard (keep on laughing), got nominated something we call back home in word "Yli-ihminen", I received emails, gifts and vouchers which all were saying the same thing, how awesome I was doing what I did. Just by those words, thats the best thing that Canada could offer for now. I was lucky to receive the visa in the first place, as I was one of the fews that got it. That plus what I can now put into my cv, its priceless and I do understand that everyone can't wake up in Canada even they wanted to.
So all the people have been asking me the same question... How's Canada and how are the canadians?!
Well, working in a ski resort where 75% of staff members are from Australia, I haven't been able to meet so many CANADIANS. The few that I have met, have been awesome people! This is one of the reasons that I left month early, that I would be able to see more Canada than Vancouver and Silver Star.
So the fun begin...
I ordered weeks ago that snowboard was been picked up FROM the mountain, hour before the pick-up, I got phone call saying that they will not pick it up from the mountain and I had to bring it down to Vernon (45 mins drive down), well that was my departure day and roads up TO the mountain were closed due the snowfall and some accident on the road, I told him that I would bring it down and he told me that they are open until 7pm.
Then, after saying goodbye to everyone, me and my friends headed down to Vernon, and after few wrong addresses and a phone call, found the place and the lady informed me that they close at 2pm. I nicely told her to take the bag and send it tomorrow but I WAS leaving. Then my friends dropped me off to Greyhound station and we said again goodbyes.
As I was waiting for my bus, I was talking to this older couple and they were wondering where was the buses.. Oh well few minutes later bus driver came and I asked does he knows where is my bus, and he nicely told me that there is no bus tonight to Calgary as they changed the timetables last week... And it left 30 minutes ago. He looked at my ticket and told me that I could travel with that ticket the next morning. Then he locked the doors and kicked me out from the Greyhound station, there I was, with my bags middle of the night in Vernon where I didn't know anyone. I cried.
After that I sent some messages and did some phone calls and before I knew, was back in Silver Star.
Stayed that night in the hostel (where I never got to visit before this), had good night sleep and headed down again the next morning. This time there actually was a bus and when explaining everything at the station and the bus driver, they both told me that I CAN'T travel with the old ticket, and had to buy a new one. And again, I cried. Thanks for my friend been there to comfort me. Yes, I know, its only money. Well enough, I cried and paid my ticket and few moments later I was on my way to Calgary, Alberta.
After getting my s*** together (Yes, cried in the bus too), I was watching the Rockies, and these mountains are just breathtaking and really iconic for this country. After watching The Rocky Mountains for hours (and napping), I finally arrived to Calgary.
Calgarians are friendly people, it was colder that I thought but I will survive. Just exploring the city and relaxing in my hostel, which is probably the weirdest place of all. I was the other night in the tv room, and there was me and 9 other guys, and one after another someone would sit next to me and try to.. Whatever it was called. But I met this awesome canadian girl, and we just connected immediately and been laughing out loud since! It's mixed up city, and oh yes, the hostel is located in East Village, and my LP says; Don't stay out after dark, it also next to homeless shelter.. :D On Monday morning journey continues finally to long waited... TORONTO!
So the biggest thanks to all the people who I met while working in Silver Star, you will never be forgotten.
Especially want to thank my roommates, Sarah, Jake and Kimba, my life will never be the same after working and living side by side to you guys, I can't stop smiling when thinking all of our crazy, unforgettable times together, you guys are the best <3
So to all the mates...
Life is amazing in that way, I know that our paths will cross once again <3
