Hellloooo!!
I hope you're all ok back in Inglaterra... I've been so busy since I've been here - visiting all the sites and trying to figure out where everything is.
It's such an amazing city - exactly what I thought it would be like and then completely different at the same time. Although it is very cosmopolitan you can definitely still tell at times you're in South America - only through small things though like Health and Safety... It's very interesting to look at the safety infraustructures that are being used on buildings being built/renovated - very basic...
I started International Week last week... was quite interesting and incredibly boring at the same time. Had lots of talks and I signed up for my modules and then met lots of the other internationals - not as many English as I thought there would be but then that is a good thing I suppose.
Started uni this week though - had my first lecture yesterday. Was an Argentine one with no other internationals in it so was a bit daunting but I survived it! I understood all the economics of it but was struggling with the spanish vocabulary... hopefully that will come with time though.
Also struggling with the accent here... some words are pronouced soooo differently compared to in Spain. It's the Italian influence... slowly getting used to it though.
So what have I been to see so far...
Well I've done A LOT of walking and have seen so many different things but I'll try to compact it all..
1) Been to the zoo --> yes it was a necessary trip.
2) Been to Plaza Mayor/Casa Rosada - I walk past these on my way home from uni and my friend Paddy made a very good point about our walk home from uni the other day. I tend to just plod on home but he pointed out that we do walk through two of the most well known tourist attractions in Buenos Aires - should really appreciate it more!
3) Puerto Madero - where my uni is... Is quite fancy but nothing special - prefer other areas.
4) San Telmo - think its one of the oldest barrios (neighbourhoods) but it has a very lively market there on Sundays - full of antiques and other bits and bobs.
5) La Boca - where all the colourful housing is and the football stadium for the Boca Juniors
6) Palermo - area filled with lots of restaurants and fancy boutiquey shops!
7) Recoleta Cemetery - it was INCREDIBLE!!! I'm not quite sure what I was expecting but it was like lots of little houses that made up a maze. Found Evita's little tomb which was quite cool to find...
8) Visited a Ranch during international week - rode a horse that I named Rodney
9) Have eaten lots of incredibly yummy meat. Had my first real steak on Saturday though and I'm still dreaming about it. It was SOOO good!
Hmmm... there are lots of other things that I've done/visited but its hard explain them all as some of them are quite random.
Still trying to adjust to their style of life here - everything is pushed back by about 3-4 hours! Gradually starting to eat later though.
anyway I have rambled on enough for now but I hope I entertained you all for a little while!
Hope you're all ok! Email me with any news you have.
Lots love, take care xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
