The journey - day one
We left the flat about 5:30 and headed to the airport. I was happy that despite leaving in rush hour we made it to Heathrow in minutes. We then had the tension of trying to check in, uncertain if our huge 70 litre packs would be over the weight limit. They were about 17 kg so we made it, just. Everyone else on the flight had checked in online 24 hours in advance, but we couldn't because of the type of ticket we have. So we had to beg to get seats together. Fortunately pouting paid off and we got two seats together with an empty seat next to us. However due to the snow in the UK the plane was frozen to the runway and needed to be de-iced before we could leave. This resulted in an hour delay which meant that we had to run for our connection at Jo’burg, and just made the final call. 6 others from our flight from Heathrow missed the connection. We had an interesting flight from Jo’burg as our pilot was keen to point out all the sights, we flew over Victoria falls in an almost vertical position so we could get a good look at it. After an hour and a half after takeoff we landed in Livingstone. I picked up a bag and started to panic because I couldn’t get my pack safe off. Then someone tapped me on the shoulder and pointed out it wasn’t my bag, it was there’s. After I picked up the correct bag we haggled for the best taxi price and headed to the accommodation.
