Luang Prabang
The city of mouth watering pastries and beautiful temples. I have finally arrived after three very long and eventful days. Thankfully my hostel was easy to find and as my two American friends had promised, the showers were amazing! LPQ backpackers does really clean dorm rooms with a cooked breakfast all for less than £4 a night! Plus it is really social. I saw lots if familiar faces as soon as I walked through the door!
My two days in the city were spent firstly visiting the spectacular KuangSi waterfalls just outside the city. Either rent a motorbike or get a tuk tuk out there (about a 45min journey) and you will not be disappointed. Crystal clear aquamarine shallows for you to swim in, all surrounded by stunning mini falls and jungle. Then at the north end is the big falls which you can climb up. There is also little pools behind the fall where the monks usually hang out :)! We spent the whole day there and our tuk tuk waited for the day. Price wise it's normally around 160,000 per tuk tuk so the more the merrier and cheaper it will be per person.
My second day was spent checking out the numerous temples and strolling slog the rivers. Luang Prabang is also full of great restaurants and cafés. You have to go to JoMas for coffee and their pumpkin and cream cheese muffin... Mmmm! As for the night life Luang Prabang respects the Laos curfew and most bars close around 11pm. However there is one place that stays open... The bowling alley. Oh yes, we partied and bowled! Failing that I went to a pretty cool Laos night club outside of town. Free entry but expensive drinks. Music was good though.
So all in all a nice couple of days in the city and surroundings. A definite to visit if not just for the waterfalls. Quite probably the most beautiful thing I've seen in South east asia so far! Enjoy!!!
