Hmmmm, me and my friend's family decided to go to Indonesia for a day. It sounds daunting, a free and easy trip there. But being in Singapore, it is a gateway everywhere:) Batam , Indonesia is just 40minutes away via a fast-ferry.
For a day tour, we were able to check out the neighbouring country. It is not as progressive, or as rich as Sg. But still one should not compare, for it's another culture.
What do I know about Indonesia? Not much. Except it's one of the worlds largest exporter of Coffee and Tobacco. I swear everywhere I went, it smelled of cigarette, and coffee, yes it's different..
The currency is very low there. It is shocking to buy everything from 5 - 6 figures.
I never felt so rich in my life! to be drinking coffee that costs 14,000 Rupiah. Indonesia is also a factory outlet for brands such as Polo, or Puma and many others. So everything you buy is cheaper at the factory. Though the biggest outlet for that is in Bandung, which is hours away from .
Our tour itinerary consisted of a visit to the cracker store, they have tons!
We also went to their local coffee shop.
Then we had Seafood lunch, it was delicious. But I didn't eat a lot--I had too many local crackers eaten already!
They have this Snake Fruit and many other Kaong type, and tropical juices, that you can also find in other places here in Asia:
We went and see their Spirit Dancers who ate glass and ate fire, opened coconuts with their teeth, and jumped thru a loop of fire.
They also had a park filled with Miniature Houses, of the 50+ provinces they have in Indonesia, here are some that I took pics of
And of course, those Buddhist Temples that are just all over Asia, and my fascination with Lanterns. :)
So Indonesia...Conquered! I may go to Bandung or Bali one of these days.
