DAY ONE:
Arrived in Paris!! From London by Bus. Was cheapest option and only took around 6 hours...
Being my first time overseas, I struggled... and felt slightly unsafe...
The Bus depot isn't in the classiest part of town, and 2 young girls with 2 big suitcases didn't exactly make us discreet...
So we ended up getting a taxi to our Hostel- St Christophers Inn... Recommended by busabout... Nice clean, new hostel- DODGY AREA!!
Probably would have preferred to stay closer to the city centre- was hard getting around safely by public transport at night...
Headed out to the red district that night and met up with Christines friend Claire- hit up an Irish pub/ Kareoke bar- Lots of fun!!
DAY TWO:
Did a free walking tour by day- was good and informative and a solid length. Saw most of the main attractions, although only briefly. Recommend heading back to most attractions at your own leisure.
Went back to eiffel tower, ate a chocolate crepe (YUM!!), took the necessary photos then continued back to the hostel.
Did the same company's pub crawl around red light district- was also good fun!
DAY THREE:
Did some 'busabout' internet organisation, then headed out on a wild goose chase- looking for a restaurant that was recommended in lonely planet...
never found the restaurant, however experienced the locals (not very friendly) and some interesting back streets of Paris... ended up finding our own restaurant where we splurged- I had salmon with a basil and parmesean dressing, and Christine had prawn risotto... Food was good- although that could have been due to not eating for 7 hours...
Saw the Eiffel Tower at night!! Beautiful!! however felt slightly unsafe... Lots of buskers and beggers... the unsafe feeling was probably only judged by the fact that I wasn't a very 'worldly' traveller at this stage...
DAY FOUR:
Made our own way out to the Louvre... then continued on to the Champ de Elysee... Goal of the day= eat snails and frogs legs... Achieved!
Was so hard to find frogs legs!! Ended up finding an expensive yet extremely hospitable restaurant along the Champ de Elysees- where we were able to sit outside, and shared an entree of snails marinated in a pesto sauce, and a main of frogs legs and rice with a tomato sauce. We were given plenty of bread to soak up the juices so ended up being quite a substantial feast!
We then continued on to the Arc de Triomphe, Caught a random Church Service in Notre Dame (beautiful), then headed back to the hostel.
