Tomorrow we are headed to the orphanage started in Nov. of 150 kids that are orphans of the hurricanes to take all the clothes and toys. The priest that started it is having a hard time feeding everyone because the "relief fund" set up for these kids have been stolen by one of the many corrupt politicians.
There is no post system, no trash system, and no clean water in this country so there really is no way to get them help. The only way is to fly it here yourself... Even the "relief aid" given by the US, they found out was stolen by a group of rebel thugs that have infiltrated the military and "relief effort" group. We drove through the city streets of port au prince tonight to look at the people getting ready for Carnival. It looked like a war zone run by thugs. Guns "police" who the Haitians don't trust are roaming everywhere in large groups. There are usually 3 or so translators with us and a driver (worse than any Taxi driver you could imagine) they are all very nice and tell us what to do and not to do as far as behaviors. They teach us Creole and I have learned to say a lot.
Anyone want to learn anything in Creole?
The politics involved in Haiti are overwhelming too. This entire country is based through relationships its all who you know, not who needs the most help.
