Checked out of hotel and caught Metro (which was conveniently at the end of the road) to the main train station to collect the hire car from the Europcar office.
Took a wee while to find the office after some confusing directions from the station info place.
Decided to upgrade to next size car as agent said our bags wouldnt fit in boot of one we reserved so upgraded to VW Golf for extra €10 per day. Also decided to upgrade insurance to nil excess (instead of €600) after seeing how crazy people drive here. Also got GPS so all in all what was initially a cheap deal probably came in at €1425 more than double initial quote!
So programmed Valencia into GPS and we were on our way. Took couple of wrong turns leaving Barcelona city but eventually figured out GPS's distances and got to Valencia in one piece. Chris did amazingly well considering new car and on wrong side of the road!
Had booked online to stay at Zenit Hotel which has onsite parking under hotel for €15 per day. Hotel in good location, reception staff could speak English yay! Room nice but turns out walls very thin.
Las Fallas de San Jose festival was on which lasts about a week and involves massive models (Falles) being built traditionally made out of wood but more commonly now made out of polystyrene and loads and loads of fire crackers. Not the pretty sparkly ones but the ones that make a huge bang!
Whilst all the Falles and the street lights were amazing the constant letting off of fire crackers in front of you was doing my head in, I mean I'm jumpy at the best of times so my nerves were shot after an hour or two!
Managed to find quiet restaurant away from fire crackers and had some wine and tapas. Ate at outside tables which fortunately had cover and heater as was raining and quite cold.
