Shaun and Carolyn do Europe!
Sorry about the picture again, cant find any for WARSAW... its of Hawaii!!
Anyway, good news, found a pint for 5 ZL (about 90p). It was in Happy Hour but still one a half quid aint bad for a pint. The one I\'m currently drinking is 7 ZL.... yeah!
Anyway, got a great train ride from Berlin to Warsaw, met a guy called Joe Poklak (or someting like that), played and sand Blackbird (Paul McCartney for those who dont know) on his guitar for us. We also bought a CD off him with some of his music on as a thank you for such a great train ride.
Got to Warsaw last night, a bit wiped out as we\'d had a few beers on the train so just went for something nice to eat (steak kebab followed by a great ice cream sundae that I know my dad would have loved!).
The HOstel (Hostel Helvetia) is nice, managed to get a twin private room which is great but has shared shower/toilet etc. (Had to stay in a 8 bed dorm in Berlin which was ok but strange - felt like being on a school trip but \'allowed\' to drink beer!!!). Went to the Palace of Science and Culture today, which was said to be a gift from Stalin after the war, it had a cool exhibition all about Einsteins and other theories. Had a fab panoramic view of the city as well. Also took 3 and a half hours to cash in some Sterling travellers checks which Thomson advised would be an \'easy\' option instead of using our card/carrying cash. Did bring us to get the chance to check out the Warsaw trade centre which was a fantastic building with a fab view, so the time wasnt completely wasted.
Oh, we also went to the largest open air market in Europe in the old football stadium this morning, sold cavier and hand grenades... and it would be a chavs dream as they sold lots of top brand trainers for cheap.
Anyway, so here we are now in an internet cafe, tired and ready for bed at 6.30pm.
Off to Krakow tomorrow which should be good. Oh, we also missed the POPE!! He must have been here yesterday, if we had known we might have come a bit sooner, that would have been a great story to tell.
Anyway, thanks for all the messages, great to know you are all missing us ... hahaha.
Still missing Amsterdam, but couldnt have kept up with the pace, and would have no money left at all.
You will all be pleased to know that there is a Mackeydees in Warsaw too. Tried some Polish dumplings with meat today, wish I had gone for the steak as Shauns looked fab, and only cost about 7 quid. Fed up with ham and cheese sarnies for brekky though.. been dreaming about maple cured tescos finest smoked bacon........ and eggs..... mmmmmmmmm.
Anyway, gotta spend some time finding out about somewhere to stay tomorrow night.
Take care.
Caz and Shaun
