Shaun and Carolyn do Europe!
Hey, this is the second time I have wrote this bit of journal as the last one was lost as it must have timed out.
Sorry about the picture again, although it is lovely, it is not a picture of Krakow. I will try and download some pics in Budapest which is our next destination.
Where did I leave off? I think it was the internet cafe in Warsaw. We managed to purchase 9 strips, 2 pieces, 2 chips and a corn on the cob for a poorly octopus.... six squid!!!!!!
Going to save it now just in case!!!!
Saved.. nice one!!!!
Anyway, after our KFC we went sleep after a few beers!! Next morning we did some washing and then booked our trip to Auchwitz for the afternoon. The minibus journey was a bit of a ride. The mini bus driver was pulled up by the police within about 20 minutes and then half way we were involved in a near fatal accident (really wasnt that bad but I do like to exagerate). An on coming car was all over the road, the van in front had to swerve to miss it.... so our driver swerved too.... the car still managed to skim our bus... mad a right job of the paint work!!!!
So, I think our driver was a bit pissed off cos we turned the bus round and decided to chase the car!!
So, a near fatal crash and a car chase in one day.. mental!!!
Anyway, we got to the museum and to be honest I was humbled by the whole experience. An old friend from college had said that she saw a room full of shoes and cried. I thought it would be emotional but did not realise the extent of it. There was a room full of hair that was taken from bodies that had been murdered to sell, that was made into cloth. There was also a room of suitcases.... packed in the hope of a better future. The guide who took us round was amazing ( I found it hard to understand everything she said) I got the feeling she had a personal attachment to the camp and the war as she spoke with so much emotion. She ended the tour with a very emotional speach about the strength of human beings and hope... something I know I will always look back on in times when I feel that the going is getting tough
Today, we went round Wawel castle and in the Dragons Den (pictures to follow!) and then played a nice game of chess. So the grand total for chess is one all!!!!! Thanks to Shaun for giving me some great chess tips.
Off to HUngary at 10.30 tonight... will be in Hungary at 9.30 tomorrow.
Take care.
