ciao! - Annie
Hi From Robin and Annie!
A few more details: our feet hurt!!!!!! We have walked, walked and walked! Our legs feel disconnected from our hip bones. We have visited the Vatican, St. Peters Chapelle, seen Michealango's Creation of Adam, hung out in St. Marcus Square where the Pope addresses the public, shopped in outside markets where everyone was crying out Annie, Annie, Annie, once the vendors heard me call her name ( she was so embarrased), visited 2nd century catacombs where christains were buried in underground in caves, visited a funeral caves constructed out of bones of 80,000 monks, yes, really. We walked on the Via Appica Antica- a very old road 312 BC. ( B. C. Before Christ) We visted the Colosseum etc. etc. We have pictures.
Our hosts in Rome are wonderful people and their home in the countryside is something out of a good novel, complete with horses snickering in the meadows, lavender trailing the stairsways, a lovely pool, large tiled veranda with windchimes echoing peacefulness and a view of rolling hills. The great valley and mountains in the horizen have dotted towns among the large tracks of green forests and fields . I believe there is wheat below the house, not sure, but it is a lovely honey color it nicely frames the scenic background. I love the wild poppies that are growing right now. The food is wonderful in the morning: freshly baked scones, fig preserves, omelettes with fresh herbs out of the garden, strong robust coffee and this morning we had a fantastic pie; also served, was fresh greek yogurt with honey and in season peaches!! This place and the hosts, Wendy and Maurice, have made our time here in Rome a complete dream vacation. We love you all and you are always in our thoughts and prayers. We prayed for you at St. Peter's Church. Much much love from us.xxxxxoooooAnnie and Robin. We leave for Cinque Terra (Five Lands) in the morning. We will stay on the Italian Riveria for two days to hike the famous cliffs of via amore and then return to Florence with our lovely new friends, Katie and Katherine.
