Hello everyone? Hope you are all well.
Well here I am again with another installment.....
So after leaving the beautiful island of Koh Tao (very sad) we headed on the boat to Koh Phan Gan which would be our home for the next 7 nights. We have planned the Thailand part of our trip around one date - 29th June: The Full Moon Party. We got there a few days before the date as in my own experience finding accommodation near or just after the party is an absolute nightmare!
We had been told by a few people that the northern part of the island was nice and away from the Haad Rin, the main beach, which as we witnessed was a men's urinal!! We spent the days leading up to the party on the beach and that is literally where we stayed. The guys that we did our dive course with were staying on the same beach as us so we met up with them and generally had a good chilled out time. They met up with two of their other friends who they came away with Rosanne and Chantelle.
We spent a lot of time eating and drinking, and those of you who know me I didn't eat fish - well now I do!! I had some lovely fish on the BBQ, so I think we are getting there to me becoming a seafood connoisseur!!!hehe. Mark and Helen left after two nights (see you in SA). We ended up using the pool in the resort the others were staying in, as we spent most of our time there and money!
On the Wednesday night, we were going to go to a Blue Moon Party on one of the beaches. Claire, Chantelle, Berton, Rosanne and I piled on to the boat which felt it was going to break along with about 14 other people. We got to the beach and it was dead, there was hardly anyone there. We decided to stay on the boat, but in the process of everyone else getting off we got soaked. The waves were crashing inside the boat and we could all ring out our clothes! The bag I had put on my head ended up being a waterproof for my bag. We got to Haad Rin, the main beach and it seemed like madness. The beach was packed with makeshift bars selling buckets. We just headed to the bar that looked fairly central and close to where we got off the boat. We had a great night, a lot of alcohol consumed, bodies decorated in paint. We danced and sang and let our hair down. Chantelle danced around in her bikini, regretting it the next day, it was so hot in there who could blame her. We didn't end up leaving until 7am. It did seem weird getting the boat home when it was light.
The next day, I was the first one up. I met the others at the pool then we went and got lunch, and then Claire rolled up with dark sunglasses on not feeling the best. She later informed me that she had infact been a little ill. It was a very quiet day, with everyone suffering a little if not a hangover, with tiredness. We said our goodbyes to Berton, Rosanne and Chantelle - thanks for a great time you guys, again see you in SA.
The next night was the full moon party. We had learnt not to take a bag or anything as it will go missing, not to leave anything valuable in the rooms as they often get done over on the party night. We had arranged to meet a few people we have met along the way travelling in the same bar we were in on Wed night. We arrived on the boat, to a sea of people. It was absolutely packed, I thought last time was busy, but this really was madness. We got a Sangsom bucket (whiskey, coke and red bull!). We met up with a guy we had met in Vietnam and then met the loads of people he was with. We just partied on the beach. I was very wary of everyone as some of the people were off their faces. The beach just seemed to get busier and busier. They were expecting up to 40 000 people as it was some kind of 20th anniversary. We got painted again in lots of bright colours. This night we headed home on the 4am boat and got back after 5.
Yesterday was very jaded, another chilled out day by the pool. The pool really was a life saver as it was nice and cold and an instant cure for a hangover.
So there we go, Koh Phan Gan and Full Moon Party tick. Sorry its not an overly good entry but we didn't do anything in the day times other that relax. And to be honest the photos show what a good time we had.
Next, Koh Samui for a night, then on to South West Thailand to Phuket.
Take care. Love and Miss you all loads and loads.
Carly and Claire
