Still in Center. After breakfast we went to the local library and sifted through their genealogy shelves. We found one book of Civil War veterans that said that Sanford had a third wife. That rascal! About every 20 years he got a new one!
Off in search of Sanford's grave. We knew he is in Fairview Cemetery, but it has over a thousand graves - a bit large for our "walk it all" approach. So we went to a local funeral home in search of a map. They sent us to City Hall since this cemetery is owned and maintained by the city. They sent us to the City "Annex." We get there and it's a maintenance shed for the city streets department, and is marked "City Employees Only!" We drive around it a couple of times, can't find another way in, so we go in past the signs to a little tin building, and lo and behold we find a person with a map! Will wonders never cease! Fairview Cemetery is scenic and well kept, sprinkled with Civil War veterans. We quickly found Sanford, his first wife, Sarah, their son William Pierce and his wife, and an assortment of others who we'll need to research further.
