Siem Reap is home to the famous Angkor Wat temple. It is on everything in Cambodia- from their counties flag to the local beer, and it's easy to see whay they are so proud it. We spent a day in the Angkor Wat compex which houses Angkor Wat as well as many other temples built around the 11th and 12th centuries. The amount of detail that is on everything from columns to the roofs to the floors and walls is amazing. The size of the temples also takes your breath away, and to think how long ago they were made is amazing. It must have taken so many years and people to complete each of the temples, I know at least one of them took 100 years to complete. You can easily see why, there are huge faces right up high on the roofs of the temples, hundereds of carvings depicting scenes and telling stories and hundreds of steps.
Angkor is also where Tomb Raider was filmed and we went to the temple where filming took place- it is half covered in jungle and there are trees growing right through the stonework-you can see why they chose it for the film! While we were at Ankor we also fed some mokeys in the park area surroundng the temples, one got so excited it jumped up on my lap! You should have all recieved the email with 2 of the photos in but I will also add them to our photo album online when we find a computer fast enough to upload them!
